Well, yesterday the team served up a rotten performance of historic proportions in Norman against the Sooners. 10 points at the half!!!??? WTF??!!

Temporing my disgust was another outstanding performance by the Lady Ags, who followed up their win against OK State with a smoke of the No. 8 Baylor Bears at home.

Gary Blair has his team playing well at the time of year when it matters, in March. The Lady Ags are currently ranked 20 and moving up on a bullet.

Coach Turgeon, inconsistency is a gross understatement. You're looking at having to get into the NCAA with, the way I see it, an 8-8 record, at best. Incidently, no Big XII team has made it in with a record worse than 9-7. Good luck Mark, way to take a talented and experienced team and underachieve.

Hopefully things will turn around.

ESPN Points to Jordan at Number Five in Upcoming Draft

Watch him while you can Ags, this kid is going PRO. Seriously. Of course, if you've seen him you'll quickly realize that he gets all his action from dishes and putbacks. Right now his game lacks the polish of his higher-ranked fellow freshman, but big man usually take longer to develop anyway.

DeAndre is still working to find his own patented post moves. He'll need one or two if he is ever to become a legitimate threat and offensive option during upcoming conference play. So far he hasn't needed one. He just jumps over everyone to grab rebounds and rattles the backboard.

Saturday, he'll match up against the LSU Tigers. These aren't the Glenn "Big Baby" Davis Tigers of last couple years, but they're still a talented, athletic team. Two names surfaced in recent days, Reggie Herring, former interim and defensive coordinator of the Arkansas Razorbacks (I say former because the season is over and that staff is out) and a former way-back buddy in the form of Nolan Cromwell.

Cromwell is a former option quarterback-turned-pro safety from Kansas. In the way-back, he paired with former Ag All-American Dave Elmendorf to form a formidable Seattle secondary. These days he's the wide receivers coach with the same team. Rumor has it that he carries the stamp of approval from Mike Holmgren.

It would go with current thought that Sherman will retain the majority of control over whoever is the OC. To me, that's cool, the Texas have proven an offensive juggernaut over the second half of the NFL season.

Rumors still persist that Sherman is trying to shoehorn Major Applewhite, current Crimson Tide OC, into his staff as the QB positon coach and co-offensive coordinator. Since this is a demotion from his current position I'm going to write this one off as unlikely, but hey, Gene Chizik took the Iowa State job so why not? Major's current boss Nick Saban is a notorious epic dickhead toward subordinates so that may play a factor.

The Reggie Herring hire is the big question mark. He doesn't have the vast NFL experience most Ags would like to see, however he is known for running the aggressive, blitzing defenses that Ags long to witness at Kyle Field. However, Missouri TORCHES Herring Razorbacks that last week at the Cotton Bowl, cooling a few folks on his potential against the numerous spread offenses populating the Big XII.

As for the remainder of the position coaching hires? Who knows. All we currently have is Van Malone and we all saw how his boys got TORCHED by Penn State.

As Drudge says, developing...

Aggies Ranked No. 22 in Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll

Aggies Ranked No. 22 in Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll
Dec 22- Defending Big 12 champion Texas A&M earned a No. 22 ranking in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s Fabulous 40 pre-season NCAA Division I poll, the publication released Friday. In the case of the men, it was business as usual against a mid-major, blowing out Arkansas Pine Bluff 64-37. Much playing time was enjoyed by the boys deeper on the pine.

The Lady Ags encountered quite a different challenge. Playing against undefeated 16th ranked Auburn Lady Tigers, the Ags pulled off a nail biter, winning 62-60. Both teams continue their march towards the Top 10 as they approach conference play.

On Football, talk amongst the Aggie faithful remains more focused on pending coaching hires than on the approaching Alamo bowl against Joe Paterno and Penn State. Rumors abound that the entire coaching staff was informed that their tenure would end on 30 December. Many Ags are hoping against hope that a few key members like Van Malone will stay on with the new staff.

Here's a piece of reality: don't plan on anyone hanging on with the new staff. Coaching staffs are like families. A new hire is an opportunity to expand careers for family members within that coach's family. There will be no shortage of young up and comers within the NFL ranks that would be happy to take a positional promotion along with Mike Sherman. Keeping a Franchione guy on board would mean denying an advancement to a member of the Sherman family.

Sorry, that's just the way it goes. I'm anticipating a relatively unknown NFL positional refugees. I don't think we'll be familiar with any of them. Seriously, unless your fan of a particular team and one of these dudes was on that particular staff it is highly unlikely we'll be familiar with their accomplishments outside of a wikipedia entry.

Sherman Already Working Recruits

As with any coaching situation, whenever a coach appears to be a lame duck, recruits start to waver. Coach Mark Turgeon has smoothly taken the reigns of a veteran Aggie squad bolstered by outstanding freshman center DeAndre Jordan.

So far the Ags have what I would consider two very credible wins against Washington and Ohio State. If their outside shooting decides to come around some time before conference play, then we could be looking at another outstanding March.

With Josh Carter drawing all Acie Law's double teams from last year, freshman swingman Nathan Walkup might be the consistent deep threat from the wings. Add a surging Brian Davis and a resurgent Donald Sloan returning from an early season slump, and the Crimson Tide will be facing a tough task.

The Crimson Tide brings a 3-1 record sporting a three guard offense and overall undersized lineup compared to the days when Alabama casually sported monsters like Gerald Wallace, Antonio McDyess and Robert Horry. While the national spotlight is not currently shining on the Tide, they are still a major D-1 program in a major conference.

Those kind of wins always tend to look good for selection committees in March.

Dennis Franchione out, Mike Sherman in

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dIuw-pJie68/R0xNNmiaKEI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/jA87osJuico/s400/sherman-mike-gbp-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5137566171001399362" />
Ending what was an emotional fall in Aggieland, Texas A&M brought back Mike Sherman.

If there was ever a day to feel every emotion possible, Nov. 23 was just that for Texas A&M and its fans.
Texas A&M defeated No. 11 Texas for the second straight season, this time 38-30 at Kyle Field in the 114th meeting of the two schools. Dennis Franchione stepped down as the Aggies' head coach immediately following the win.

"Kim and I have arrived at the decision to step down as head football coach out of respect and love for our players, for this university and its football program," he said. "I've always said that coaches exist for only one reason -- the players. We have an outstanding group of young men on this team and especially great people. We want them to know that we love them, feel blessed for our time together, and will miss them."

Three days later it was Sherman, an assistant coach at A&M under R.C. Slocum before stints as head coach of the Green Bay Packers and offensive coordinator -- his current job -- with the Houston Texans. With the Texans, Sherman worked under for A&M quarterback Gary Kubiak.

"Coach Fran" resigned after a season that involved an e-mail newsletter service that gave privileged and well-paying Aggies fans insider notes on the football program from Franchione himself. He was admonished by the school in October but was allowed to finish the season before the school would take any further action. Defensive coordinator Gary Darnell will serve as interim head coach should Texas A&M go to a bowl game.

Source
