Dec 16- Josh Carter scored 16 points and Texas A&M used stifling defense for a 64-37 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday. The Aggies (9-1) held Arkansas-Pine Bluff scoreless for nearly 10 minutes to start the game, then the Golden Lions went without a basket for an 8 1/2-minute span in the second half. The win improves the Aggies' home record to 7-0 and breaks a three-game winning streak for Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Texas A&M 88, UC Irvine 66
Dec 22- Donald Sloan had 14 points, five rebounds and five assists and Texas A&M (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today, No. 14 AP) pulled away from UC Irvine in the second half for an 88-66 victory on Saturday. Dominique Kirk added 14 points and DeAndre Jordan had 12 points and five rebounds for the Aggies (11-1), who have won 32 of their last 33 games at noisy Reed Arena. Texas A&M has won 43 consecutive regular-season nonconference home games.
Cassidy Returns to A&M as Assoc. AD for Football
Nov 30- Tim Cassidy has been hired as the associate athletic director for football at Texas A&M, Aggie head football coach Mike Sherman and Director of Athletics Bill Byrne announced today. “I am very pleased to announce that Tim Cassidy will return to Aggieland to serve as an associate athletic director for football,” Sherman said. “Tim is widely respected across the country as one of the top football administrators.
Texas A&M 79, Detroit 39
Dec 19- Freshman DeAndre Jordan had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 14 Texas A&M to a 79-39 victory over Detroit on Wednesday night. It was the third straight victory for the Aggies (10-1) and their most lopsided of the season. Jordan, who leads the nation in field goal percentage, missed only the last of his eight shots. He is 46-of-58 over his first 11 games. He hasn't been nearly as good at the free throw line, however,and he missed all three free throws he took Wednesday and is just 12-of-43 overall.
A&M’s Wallace Named Finalist for Rimington Trophy
Nov 28- Texas A&M offensive center Cody Wallace was named one of five finalists for the Rimington Trophy, which is given annually to the outstanding center in college football, the Boomer Esiason Foundation announced on Wednesday. Joining Wallace as finalists for the prestigious award are Steve Justice (Wake Forest), Kory Lichtensteiger (Bowling Green), Jonathan Luigs (Arkansas), Alex Mack (California) and Adam Spieker (Missouri).
Alamodome Practice opens Bowl Week Preparations
Dec 25- The Texas A&M football team opened on-site preparations for the Valero Alamo Bowl on Christmas Day with a workout of just under two hours in shorts and shoulder pads inside the Alamodome. In what interim coach Gary Darnell termed a good workout, the Aggies worked on installation in preparation for Saturday's showdown with Penn State (7 p.m. CST, ESPN HD). Darnell and many of the players commented on how important it was for the team to get inside the competition venue and familiarize themselves with the facility and especially the playing surface.
Sherman Named Head Coach at Texas A&M
Nov 26- A former NFL executive with deep ties to the college game, Mike Sherman was named head football coach at Texas A&M on Nov. 26, 2007. An Aggie assistant coach in the early 1990s, Sherman returns to Aggieland after serving as the Houston Texans assistant head coach since 2006. Sherman was the offensive line coach on R.C. Slocum's initial coaching staff and helped the Aggies to three conference championships in his two stints at Texas A&M (1989-93, 1995-96).
Three Aggies Earn All-American Citations
Jun 16- Three members of the No. 7 Texas A&M baseball team recently received All-American citations after leading the Aggies to the best turnaround in NCAA baseball this season. Junior utility player Blake Stouffer (San Antonio, Texas), senior pitcher Kyle Nicholson (College Station, Texas), and junior shortstop Brandon Hicks (Houston, Texas) earned All-American accolades by one or more of five reputable baseball media outlets or associations.
Football Meets Media at Alamo Bowl Press Conference
Dec 17- Coaches and players met with the media on Monday evening at the Aggie Football pre-bowl game press conference, held at the Bright Complex on the A&M campus. The Aggies are preparing to meet Penn State in the 2007 Valero Alamo Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 29 in San Antonio. Kickoff at the Alamodome is set for 7 p.m. (CST).
